Training & Apprenticeships
At GP Thomas Construction, our people are at the heart of everything we do, which is why we place strong emphasis on training and apprenticeship development across the business. We support trade, technical and management staff through a structured programme that combines accredited training with hands-on, on-site experience, helping individuals build confidence, competence and practical skills.
We work closely with local colleges, schools and employment centres, offering on-project training sessions and short taster opportunities to give people a real insight into construction careers and encourage early skills development.
We consistently exceed industry norms by employing between one and three apprentices and/or graduates at any one time, across a range of trade and management disciplines. Each of them benefits from a dedicated mentor and bespoke training and development plan to help them grow and succeed.

We also must consider that the vast majority of the building stock that we will be using in the next 20-30 years is already built. We work closely with clients and specialist consultants to assess embodied carbon, optimise performance across the full lifecycle and ensure buildings meet the increasingly stringent requirements emerging from national climate legislation and the Building Safety Act. By embracing best‑practice retrofit methodologies and a holistic view of carbon across construction, operation and user energy consumption, we help create energy‑efficient, low‑carbon buildings that are resilient, comfortable and cost‑effective to run.

Apprenticeships at GP Thomas

We maintain a minimum of one to three apprentices at any one time across a range of trades and management disciplines, ensuring each individual receives highquality mentoring, structured training and meaningful onsite experience, in line with bestpractice.
With the Construction Industry Training Board highlighting the sector’s urgent need to significantly increase apprenticeship starts to meet future workforce demand, our proactive investment in skills not only strengthens our own capability but contributes to addressing the national construction skills gap and building a more resilient industry for the long term.
Carbon Reduction

Early Contractor Involvement (ECI)
